This
weekend was the Ducati Club Race in Assen. The 27th time the
event was there. In the past riders from all over the world,
have participated. So was there the Britten a few times to
name one. A lot of raceclasses are Ducati only, but there
has always been space for other Italian makes. Two classes
with a lot of international participation are the Sound of
Thunder and Supermono. Both are part of an international
championship.
In the past there have always been Moto Guzzi΄s in the Class
named BEARS. There was the
Swallower Guzzi, The Dr. John prototype, Jens Hofmann with
his Dynotec Guzzi, Raceco> Daytona and others. What has
changed over the years is the way bikes are build. Now the
bikes out of the shop are so fast you can win a race with a
good driver on it.
Last year the MGS01 was for the first time in Assen. Guaro
had a few laps training on the track and went to third place,
a very good result considered that other bikes in the class
were much more expensive tuned and had drivers that have
been often on the Assen track.
The Assen track has a new layout this year, everyone has the
same track, in the past the Moto GP had a longer track. So
this year the Dutch Guzzisti had great expectations.
The first training started, Guaro finished it sixt place,
3.5 seconds behind. Then the second training, Guaro was only
1.6 seconds behind the first. That was promising.
End of the day there was the third training, but after 6
laps, Guaro had to stop. The MGS01
didn΄t work anymore as it should. After the engine cooled,
it didn΄t take long to find that there was no quick fix, and
there wasn΄t a spare engine. It΄s not a big problem, but if
you don΄t have
the parts, it stops. As papa Guareschi pointed out earlier
this day, the engine was complete
stock, and didn΄t have any problem before.
I had a race myself in the Thunderbears class. There are no
Ducati, they have their own class. What there was were
mostly RSV Mille. My Daytona has the same power as an MGS01,
only I΄m not a driver like Guaro. So I had the last starting
position on the grid. My start was very good, and I was
halfway the field after the first corners. There is a long
straight, and the Daytona was as fast as the RSV΄s. After
that, in the corners, I΄m a bad driver so they passed me,
but some needed 4 laps before they could pass me. In the end
I left 2 behind me, and had a fastest lap, 5 seconds under
my training best. It made my day.
